Question:

In what specific ways does being a "war hero" make one a more-qualified citizen to lead a nation?

I have often read questions that tout John McCain as a "war hero" and that this better qualifies him as a president. I am not being a smart or wise *** when I ask to the populace as to why they feel that way?

It is not my intention to pit individuals of any party against eachother--this is a completely neutral question, so please be civil. Thanks.

  1. Being a war hero does not necessarily qualify a person to be a  president and does not constitute someone who can save America from what it has become.

  2. For me , I think it shows self commitment to your country. The mere fact that he put his life on the line to protect mine. Its just being patriotic when the opposition will not even put an American flag on his lapel.

  3. Well first of all, the Democrats tried that with John Kerry just 4 years ago.

The difference here is that Senator McCain has been on many committees.

    presently:

Senator John McCain is Ranking Member of the Senate Committee on Armed Services; Ranking Member and former Chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation; and Member and former Chairman of the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs

  4. it doesnt at all

acually the last person i want as head of the country is a

    WAR MONGER

i want a liberal free thinker...hmm guess il vote obama..yay

  5. How does he get to be a war hero when Obama is accused of hating America, while McCain is on record for repudiating the American political system while in Vietnamese custody.

  6. It doesn't.  To keep neutrality in the question, neither does a person's race.

McCain is no war hero.  He was a snitch and should've been court martialed.  His "prison" was better than the Hilton and he had Daddy's name (A Navy Admiral) to ride on.

  7. One of the President's roles is Commander-in-Chief of the United States military.  A war hero fully understands the spoils of war, and in my mind would be far better suited to this role than someone who has not served in the military at all.

For a reference point, look at the last two Presidents and their military policies: Clinton was never in the Military, and Bush was just barely in the military.  Bush sent us to Iraq.  Clinton sent us to Kosovo, Bosnia, and Somalia.  We're still in Kosovo, Bosnia, and obviously Iraq.  Clinton pulled us out of Somalia after a day of fighting (and winning).

  8. I have two bronze stars and a silver star which I gained over a very long time. Technically I would be a hero. I do not feel that way and most in my shoes would not as it was just a job.

In the political arena it can mean much though. A man that has faced death is obviously going to be able to deal with hard situations better than one who has not.

  9. he is not less qualified because of it

  10. Simple he knows how to act under pressure and survive and end up on top.  Obama's only pressure in his life was what college to go to for free.  Obama has no backbone.

  11. The fact is this:  It does NOT qualify anyone.  If it did more than 90% of Americans would not be eligible to be a President, almost all the women and at least 70% of the men

  12. War Hero?

  13. It does not factor into the equation at all.

We have seen what an AWOL 1st Lt from the TANG brought to the plate.  I will take the other option thank you.

  14. Look..he fought for our country. He was wounded for our country. He was a POW for our country. He could have come home, because of his Dad, who was a retired Admiral, but chose to stay in prison, because he wasn't the most senior man...and even if he was...he most likey would have stayed! He was tourted and denied medical treatment. He ws an insperation to his fellow prisenors of war...all of these facts are documented..and I remeber them as they happened..as this was my time to deal with Vietnam...is he a hero...he would say NO...but being a little bias...I say Yes!

Now lets see about Obama...bigoted nut bag minister...friend and confidant..left wing anarchist..who during Vietnam...was trying to blow up U.S. buildings and belonged to terroist organizations...buys real estaet next to another friend..who is now in trial and going to go to jail for influence peddeling and being a slum lord..and gets that real estate...at 1/3 the going market price...the same day that his friend and neighbor..pays full price for the abutting propert...has a wife who wasn't proud of this country..until..her husband made it..he refuse to wear a American flag or hold his hand over his heart while the Star Spanguild banner is played...HHHHMMM. I guess that make him a HERO...to all of the Nut bags, cooks and malcuntents...Want more taxes..vote Obama...want more lenient judges..to let more rapist..drug dealers...murders and other scum bags out on the streets...vote Obama...want to negotiate with countries that have vowed to destroy the U.S and Isreal...vote Obama!

I think not.....I'll vote for Mc Cain....hero or not. tagger

  15. First there must be an agreed upon definition of what a hero actually is.

An actual war hero is not someone who survived, was shot three times or was taken prisoner. That just means they didn't die, was too stupid to duck or too slow to run.

A real hero is someone who went beyond the common bravery and valor to accomplish what others could not.

What happens once-might not be able to happen twice...

  16. I guess the best person to ask would be John Kerry.  When he ran against GW Bush it was very relevant.  When Bill Clinton Ran it ws not a factor, so you should check with him since he has been on both sides of this issue.
