  1. The native range lies roughly south of a line from southeastern Nebraska through southern Iowa, Illinois, and Indiana to southwestern Ohio. In the southern states, it is native from central Texas to western Georgia. They are generally not found west of the Rocky Mountains.

BUT they can be anywhere since they can travel by hitching rides on vehicles and packed away into boxes and so on.

  2. Hi,

    see this:

    scroll down to distribution

  3. Texas.

  4. They are more populated in Texas and surrounding states, however Brown Recluses get transported via shipping boxes, etc....and are found in other states other than the reported.  For instance, there aren't supposed to be any in the majority of Florida, however I live in South Florida and am victim of a nasty Brown Recluse bite.

If you have identified the spider and have seen a brown recluse in CA, which is always a possibility, go to this site and get sticky traps which has been voted most effective:  http://www.brown-recluse.com

Not only are there good pictures of Brown recluses for identifcation, but also a video for futher detailed identification.

Pesticides actually don't work on the recluse, they actually like the pesticides because it kills other insects and spiders and that's what they eat, so traps on the above website will be the most effective to reduce the recluse population. Hope this helps, good luck :)

  5. I'm living in a house where we kill one or two about every other day. They are everywhere here in Arkansas. I hate these nasty little critters.

  6. I don't know about California, but they definitely live in Florida.
