I just saw The Shining for the first time and I did enjoy the movie for the psychological effects, yet I didn't find it very scary. It was only scary when Jack was chasing the little boy in the maze. It was very thought provoking for me and creepy but am I missing something...it wasn't really scary. And how do you define scary?

  1. psychologically scary !

  2. Yeah, I don't know why everyone loves it so much. I don't like what Stanley Kubrick did to it at all. Jack Nicholson did some brilliant acting in it, but how much does acting really matter in a horror movie? The book was WAY more creepy. Steven King directed his own version of the movie in the 90s, but that one wasn't very scary, either. I don't think any of King's movies come close to the books. Even though you've seen the movie, you should give it a read. I promise you that you won't recognize it.

  3. trapped in a haunted hotel with no phones, snowed in and a recovering alcoholic Husband who loses his mind and decides to kill you and your son would be pretty d**n scary. It was scary for its time and an all time great performance from Jack.

  4. Most people don't think that the psychological parts are engaging, so much as terrifying. Guess you're hard to spook.

  5. It wasn't that scary,It was made to mess with peoples heads.
