  2. It's beacuse of the currents. When the world warms up, it goes north and south rather than stay where it is. There could be a 1 degree change on the equator, but there be a 28 degree change in the polar ice caps.

  3. The basic thought is that higher latitudes (away form the equator which is 0 degrees latitude) will warm more than places near the equator, and higher elevations (mountain tops) will warm more than lower elevations.

I think this is because the energy (heat) is dispersed fairly quickly from the lower elevations and latitudes to places where there is less energy (high elevations and latitudes). It is not linear so it is not equal change everywhere.

It has been a while since I've had physics, but the basic concept is energy is transferred from places with the most energy into the places with the least energy.  Heat is energy.

We can currently see this happening with the decrease in sea ice at the poles (Antarctica has ice over land too), and the melting of glaciers - goggle Kilimanjaro (one of Africa's highest mountain I think in Kenya).  Also, the northern lattitudes "green" earlier now (spring comes earlier).
