  1. Yeah that's kindofa odd question for your school (if it was your school) to set you. The point of the book is that it's believable and realistic.

But, as the wikipedia entry on the book makes clear (see note 1 at the bottom of that page) LOTF is not an uncontroversial book.

This guy: http://www.davidgribble.co.uk/lord-of-th...   is writing something similar, check it out. It isn't very good, though.

But please remember that this is an ALLEGORICAL novel, it isn't meant to be completely realistic. It's the boy's actions and their outcome that are the point - the island setting is idealised in some ways to make the ideal stage for the drama to play out.

  2. Lord of the Flies is a classic in that it is assigned reading in many schools, both high schools and colleges.   As a result there are numerous free on line resources that can help you with your study of this novel, most of which analyze the story, discuss themes and symbolism and other literary devices, and give character sketches.  If you do a search you will find many helpful resources.  Additionally hundreds of questions have been asked here on Y!A about LOTF so do a search for it in the Yahoo Answers search window and you will find lots of Q’s and A’s that should help you.
