In what ways has Beach Volleyball contributed to USA indoor Volleyball's lack of success?

Alot of major NCAA programs go crazy with Men's football coaches and baketball in regards to their salaries only to have a equally rabid alumini demand coach X be fired even though he had a winning season. Hence they then have to buy out his contract for the next decade (slight exaggeration) putting many an athletic department in debt. They then cut the Men's non revenue sports only to blame title IX.

  1. When you say, indoor volleyball, do you mean the National teams? or a Pro league?

Beach volleyball, I am assuming you mean the Pro Beach volleyball (AVP, etc...)

I don't think AVP has taken away from the Indoor game.   The cause of your perceived lack of success is mainly because of the absence of a successful professional indoor league.     Many players are driven to the Pro Beach games because of this.     We can no longer expect today's athletes to survive on $20K a year working part time at a local bank while training full time with the National team.    If given an opportunity, I am sure many players would play indoor, just as many have gone oversea to play in Italy, Germany, France, and Brazil.    Playing outdoor/beach only serve to strengthen the players game and make them a better all around player and athlete.

What hurts the men's game is the lack of grass root program and the elimination of men's program due to the unintended result of Title IX, where many schools simply chose to cancel a program to meet the ratios versus adding a women's program.

With all that said, I do see progress and improvement and I am hopeful that our Men's d Women's National teams will medal in the next Olympics.

  2. I think indoor hasn't been as successful as it should be not because of the AVP, but because of the lack of in indoor equivalent. If there was an indoor pro national league, our national team would probably achieve at least more notoriety, and would attract better players.

It's much easier for a skilled player to start in the EVP and advance up to AVP, and they can win more money and fame as they become better, or get better partners, etc; instead of choosing to play overseas or just try out for the national team, there's really no alternative to indoor.

Both mens and womens beach teams have become popular, through certain players earlier on such as Karch Kiraly, and it seems to appeal to everyone, whereas indoor volleyball to the general public seems like it's only for a select group of people. But if there was a U.S. indoor pro league, our international standings would probably improve because there would be more options than beach.
