  1. The Odobenidae have some of the most obvious adaptations - with large collections of highly sensitive vibrissae and mobile, muscular lips.

    A common trend throughout the Phocids and Otariids is for homogeneity in the cheek teeth, affording a superior grip on their piscine prey.

    In some, such as Lobodon carcinophagin, these cheek teeth are highly lobate and filigreed, increasing their surface area and allowing for many small opening through which water can be passed while retaining their food.
