In what world is a million dollar house a "mansion"?

In some places (So. California) you get a shack for half that. If you want to make it livable you have to spend another quarter million. I think for a person like Obama with his job and income a million dollar house is modest.

  1. Well, for most of the country, if you spend a million dollars for a house, you are getting a mansion.

  2. In a world with split rates of inflation. California got way the **** ahead of the rest of us in active inflation. Either we catch up, eventually, or they become isolated from the rest of the country and go into collapse. People judge such things by what they've become used to rather than what the current conditions are. I see a lot of the same behavior among my contemporaries who keep remembering 30 cent a gallon gasoline and expecting it to come back. Now, they've  become used to continually higher gas prices and housing prices and expecting that to continue.

The only real constant is change.

  3. In 3rd world countries,

in my area a million dollars will buy a very nice home but for a mansion you pay at least 6 million.

Of course the definition " mansion " is not the same for all people.

  4. I can honestly say that in my southern state A million dollars will buy you plenty of house. In my city, yes, a mansion. In the northern areas, no. It really depends on the area.

    RE: Obama & Resko

ALL politicians practice quid pro qous. ALL. There is No Such Thing as squeaky clean.

    Touche Kenneth B "Bama"

  5. Not in Illinois.

And is this the million dollar mansion he got loans from the felon Resko for?

Hooked Obama up with cheap land?

Something about 14 million dollars in State contracts to Resko?

  6. In my country you can live your whole life with one million dollars.

  7. I live in the bay area. A million dollar home is in fact modest. And i live pretty far east from the bay. A single story, rather cramped house is going to run you 700k. A nice enough 2 story is definetly over a million

However, in relation to Obama, where he lived and what he did, a million dollar home was simply out of his price range without "help," no matter what size it was

  8. Senators, rich people and celebrities buy nice homes, I don't see any mystery here. I am not jealous of my neighbors' nicer homes, I live modestly and enjoy the standard of living that the USA provides me:

Central Heat and A/C, Cable TV, High Speed Internet... most of the people on Earth would love to live in my trailer, in the USA.

If I become rich, I too will buy a nice home. I probably would not do anything as ostentatious as buying a private jet like Al Gore, or own several beach "compounds" like Ted Kennedy.

I live in Alabama, America's third world, you can have a mansion, limo,  AND servants here for less than 1/2 million.

  9. Having committed a gaffe McCain people want to change the subject.  McCain who can't even recall how many houses he owns and in fact owns at least 7 with each worth way in excess of a million $, wants us talk about Obama's single house, whether it is a mansion or not.  Way to go Senator from AZ, there is no depth to which you won't stoop,  McCain has only two responses for any question, (i) he was a POW, and (ii) Obama does not love America as much as he does.  If McCain wants to bring up his POW experience from 40 years ago why his Keating 5 experience and the fact he voted against MLK holiday that happened much after his POW days are old stories and not relevant?

The short answer to your question is a million $ home is not a mansion in any major metropolitan area.

  10. To about 97% of us, a half a million dollar house is a mansion, thank you very much.

  11. The definition of "mansion" is " any house of considerable size or pretension". Obama's home is not IN So. Cal., it's in Chicago. In what world does a retiring minister recieve a twelve million dollar line of credit from their church as a retirement gift? "There are non so blind as those who will not see".

  12. I don't care how much his house costs.

His Rezko connection to the transaction should make everyone squeemish.

Obama is a standard Chicago Machine politico, so if you like that kind of thing, Obama's your dude.
