I'm pretty sure it was murder. If you leave your car underwater for 18 hours and only report it after the police find it, I think it is murder.

  1. Massachusetts. Her name was Mary Jo Kopechne, and it was July 18, 1969.

I am not a coroner, a judge, or a jury.  I make no decision on whether it was an accident, manslaughter, or murder.  The unfortunate woman is dead.  I will not take this opportunity to make any political comment. It happened, and it is a shame that it happened.

  2. Mark has it right, it was in Chappaquiddick on Martha's Vineyard,  in Massachusetts to be exact. It occurred in 1969 While he didn't MURDER her, he left her for dead in the vehicle that went off the bridge.  The word is that he was drunk and didn't want to get caught, so he left the scene of the accident. He made no attempt to save her as she drowned, and denied all knowledge of the event until others placed him at the scene.

  3. Mass. 1969,you need to read your history he did not kill her,it was an accident

  4. 1969, Massachusetts

He didn't murder her, but he was drunk and he blacked the incident out.  Have you ever been so ripped that you wake up in the morning and don't remember what you did the night before?  That's what happened to him.

  5. I do not believe it was Murder just gross negligence. info on web site listed below.

  6. 1969 Mass.

And he did not murder her... it was manslaughter.

But , I guess dead is dead.

Many believe that he should be allowed to behave any way he wants . They have put him in a god like category.

If I did the same thing I doubt that people would defend me as well as he is defended.

Some believe she was a w***e who's life was expendable.

Also , some of the same people chastised Cheney for having a hunting accident.Even to the point to accuse him of having homicidal tendencies.

Ha ha ha !! The car just "went" into the water !!!

Oh god... Ha Ha Ha !!! Yeah ! The cops would buy that load from me.

Failure to control DUI , eluding police , leaving the scene of an accident , manslaughter , gross negligence , wrongful death ,damage to public property, illegal dumping, failure to report accident are all are charges I would expect even if all the accounts of what happened are true.

Murder = intent  ; manslaughter = negligence (both felonies)

I am NOT a republican by the way

  7. Wow you are seriously misinformed, you either want to take a bunch of insults here or remove the question and look it up first.

She was neither an intern nor a w***e, those were rumors to blacken the Kennedy association, she was a secretary there had been a party Kennedy offered to drive her home, they had to cross a plank bridge and he drove off it, they said there may have been fog, there were no lights or rails on the bridge.  There wasn't ever proof he was drunk.  Just assumptions. Kennedy got out of the sinking car, Mary Jo didn't, that Kennedy didn't rescue her is something he had to live with, but its not murder.

Its interesting that the rumor mill has now come to call her an intern, this wasn't a term used at all when it happened, in fact until Lewinsky there wouldn't have been a reason for it.

So this is an attempt to link up Clinton and Kennedy.

This was in Massachusetts.  I lived there then, so I remember quite clearly what went on.

  8. He didn't murder her. Is it so hard to understand the difference with accidental death and murder?

  9. You're pretty sure it was murder?  I'm pretty sure you're guilty of libel.  The authorities never considered it to be anything but an accident.

And you knew full well the answer.  You're asking in a sleazy attempt to score some political point, which you don't, by the way.

Ted Kennedy, who ruined his back in a 1962 plane crash, could barely save himself. If Kopechne could not unbuckle her seat  belt, open the car door, and float to the surface, tough darts for her.

If this was a murder plan, it was an extraordinarily stupid one.
