Question:

In which countries can I buy contact lenses without a prescription?

I am interested in places that are close to the US and who will ship over the internet. I was fitted with a very specific toric multifocal lens on a recent trip abroad. It was a time consuming process to get it right - the lenses needed to be specially ordered and takes 2 weeks to make and try out each pair. I just don't want to go through all that again with a US optometrist just to get a damned US prescription.

Note: I fully accept the risks of possibly going blind for daring to try to bypass the FTC/FDA.

  1. there is a reason they call them PERSCRITPTION lenses ya know.

  2. You know your prescription is valid anywhere in the world. I have seen prescriptions from China, Iran, Russia, Germany, and other countries I can't even remember anymore. They are all written the same, it's a universal language. Take your prescription from your overseas doctor and have it filled at any optometrists office in the U.S. We see it all time and understand why you don't want to get another exam if you just had one.

If you don't have a copy of it, email, call, fax your doctor overseas and ask for a copy!

  3. Malaysia could give you Multifocal Contact Lenses without a prescription, provided you know your needed eye correction (power).  If you do, then you can easily get contact lenses.
