  1. theres a small program called startup inspector

lets you view what programs are being loaded at startup and how (via startup folder, registry etc etc..) really helps if you've got an older computer being bogged down by stupid programs that load every time you boot up.

  2. Click on Start > Run then type in msconfig and hit enter to open the System Configuration Utility.

Then click on the Startup tab.

Under Startup item, pick and choose which applications you want loaded when Windows starts up.

  3. Click start, run, type in   msconfig and click ok.

A window will pop up - click the tab startup and you will see every program that starts when you turn the computer on - even it the program doesnt have an icon on the taskbar. Click on the check box to remove the check and stop the program from starting automatically

  4. Msconfig:

    1. Click Start> run, type msconfig and press enter.

    2. Click startup  tab and uncheck programs that you do not want

    3. use a search engine if you are not sure about a startup entry

    4. Click apply ok

    5. Restart the Pc

If you see a message "System Configuration Utility You are using the selective startup for troubleshooting your system", check the 'Do not show this dialogue box again' option and click OK. This occurs if you are using the Selective startup option but not using the normal startup to reduce the number of startup programs.
