  1. Yes, or you can have the person that lives with you get their own policy.  You may want to try a site that compares multiple companies at once to get you the best price. I'm paying less than  


  2. Welcome to the real and new world of insurance! In most every state, insurers are taking this same track and trying to force this issue. Some state insurance commissioners aren't buying it. Check to see where your state is on this. Insurance company "rationale" is that if they live with you, then they are probably driving your car. I don't buy this logic either and I am in the business.

    As an alternative, agree with your carrier to "Exclude" specific people that live with you. Do not then do an end run, however, and then let them drive your car. Once excluded, a person is then considered a "non-permissive user" and your insurance company will not pay any claims involving this person as a driver. If they have an at-fault accident in your car, you will personally be stuck holding the bag and without insurance.
