you can only send an sms msg to a friend's mobile if your friend has the "I'm on SMS" status beside his name..

open the Yahoo messenger... press Ctrl+T and a window opens up asking you to fill in the mobile no details and then you can type the message and send the message...

Other method is you can store the phone no of your friend in the contacts and when you keep the mouse pointer over your friend it a pop up window opens and select the 3rd button from the left...

open an empty im box....type in the cell phone number and then the message
