  1. In real pool the rules are different.  You have to call all of your shots to each pocket;  when you have ball in hand, you have to only put the cue ball behind the line, not wherever you want; their's no timers.  So the Yahoo rules suck and they ain't real, but it's still fun!!

  2. Yahoo pool rules are a computerized version of the official BCA rules of 8ball

  3. Not even close for the real rules go to BCA website After all it is a video game. But a good question

  4. Some rules are right, some are wrong:

Yahoo rule: 8 on the break is a loss.

This is never correct. With BCA rules, 8 on the break is spotted or you re-rack, and in all bar table league rules it is a win.

Yahoo rule: You must hit one of your balls for a legal shot, but not a rail.

This is the biggest no-no in yahoo pool. People can play BS safeties that are 100% illegal and get away with it. This rule along pretty much ruins the game. In real rules, you must hit one of your balls, and then hit a rail. Otherwise you give up ball in hand.

Yahoo rule: When you have one ball left, you can combo it in hitting the 8 ball first, and then only lose your turn, not give up ball in hand.

I don't know why it does this, but it's obviously wrong. You can never use the 8 ball to combo your ball in without giving up ball in hand.

Also "behind the line rules" (as the previous poster referenced) are WRONG WRONG WRONG! This is the most  common rule people who never bother to learn correct rules uses. Never, ever use "ball in hand behind the line" rules if you want to play the game correctly.

Most other rules are correct. You do not necessarily need to call every ball in an 8 ball game. BCA rules make concessions for either way to play (call shot, or no call shot). One way is not more right than the other. If you want to play 8 ball correctly, print out a set of BCA rules, and learn them. Do not play how most people play in bars or their basements, because most people play wrong.

BTW, if you live outside the US, BCA rules are the same as World Standardized rules, so you they are still valid. Check wpa-pool.com if you don't believe me.
