Ian "the torpedo" Thorpe of Australia or Michael Phelps of good ol' USA? Who would win head to head?

Phelps. he beat Ian in order to get all those gold medals. but dont get me wrong Ian is still REALLY GOOD

Phelps is both. He has 5 gold medals and 5 world records in this Olympics. Thorpe is old. He would lose.

Michael Phelps. In any event (although I have never seen Phelps swim a 1500). Ian Thorpe never dominated any event like Phelps out side of the 200m freestyle (which Phelps broke the world record) and maybe the 400m free, while Phelps is going for eight gold medals including the 200 fr.
