Yes, it could be worse, but yes we are.

I believe so.  Usually no one really knows that we're in a recession until after we're actually in one for a few months.  This sub-prime mortgage disaster really messed up investors and the Middle-class and below spending power.  It has created an economic catch 22. When investors lose money that means their shares(ownership of said company) goes down in value.  So companies do not have enough money to keep people on board so there are lay offs and no new jobs.  Without jobs the middle class, because they don't know any better, don't have any income which means they can't spend their money which makes companies richer.  

So then the cycle continues until it finally bottoms out.  It's going to get worse before it gets better.  There's already 200,000 jobs last the first quarter of the year.  We shall see.  Hopefully we don't get into so bad shape that we head for a depression.
