I just finished working on an essay which included this question. I realize that it can be argued both ways and it always boils down to what "family crisis" means and who is defining it. I know what I wrote but I was wondering what you guys think.

Consider the high divorce rate, incidence of single parents, incredible number of incarcerated individuals, diversity of religions and culture, domestic violence, sexualization of the media, high school drop out rates, lack of health care, kids growing up too fast, lack of quality childcare, poverty, de-privatization of the family, etc.

I'd love to hear your thoughtful responses. Thanks!

  1. When nothing changes, nothing changes. All this has been going on for years! More people, more of it. People are not hiding any of these facts like they did years ago.

  2. It is not just a "family crisis", it is a social breakdown of the human species here on Earth. This is sadly just the beginning if we don't fix something fast.

  3. I think we are experiencing a family crisis.  I would define the term to mean that there is a substantial decrease in the average quality of environment in which children are being raised.

Failure to provide good environments for children can result in the decay of our social, political, and economic system in future generations.

I don't think diversity of religions is so much a problem as the strong movement to destroy religion.  Whether you and I do or not, there are many people who need religion to provide moral standards, safe social environment, and identity confidence.  Religions set the moral standard, not due to their specific moral codes but rather due to how well they have defined and protected them.
