  1. I like the current playoff alignment. If you do it a different way then you would need 8 and 8 most likely and that would mean in the AL we would have

    1. Tampa Bay

    vs.

    8. Texas

    4. Boston

    vs.

    5. Minnesota

    2. Los Angeles of Anaheim

    vs.

    7. Toronto

    3. Chicago

    vs.

    6. New York

You see there is a team(texas) that has a losing record and that is just not right!

If there was an 8 team system i think the MLB would have to adapt an 82 game system. I dont see or even want to see this happen with the MLB.

6 team would be OK but still i like the current seeding system.

    Good question!

  2. Yes and End the Season earlier No way they can play into November, either way you cut it.

    End season in September

6 Teams in the AL and NL 12 Total and Two Expansion Teams in Portland OR and Charlotte NC.

4 Team Divisions  and 2 Wild Card Teams like the NFL.

If My Theory we're True Today here's how things would Fair.

    American League

    Rays East

    White Sox Central

    Angels West

Red Sox, Twins and Yankees Wild Cards

White Sox vs Yankees Red Sox vs Twins, Rays and Angels Byes.

    National League

    Mets East

    Cubs Central

    D-Backs West

Brewers, Cardinals and Phillies Wild Cards

Brewers vs Cardinals, Phillies vs Diamondbacks Cubs and Mets Byes

  3. It's competitive. There are only four spots so there's not much room for error. This keeps teams playing hard.

Baseball is a heartbreaking game. Three NL Central teams will finish above .500 and at least one will miss playoffs. Meanwhile, there's an NL West team barely floating above .500 who has a playoff spot.

It's not fair, per se, but it's baseball.

  4. I feel there should be a different format for the playoffs, but it should not be adding teams. I think we should get rid of divisions completely, and make it the four best teams. I know it will never happen, but it would put the four BEST teams in the playoffs. There are times where there is a very good division, where the third best team is better than the best teams in other divisions. For example, two years ago, in the NL West, there was bearly a team who got a winning record, and the Padres finished ontop with an 82-80 record.  There were three teams with better record that failed to make the playoffs, the Phillies at 88-74, and the Mets and Marlins, finishing with 83 wins each. Ironically, they were all in the NL East. With my format, the Phillies would have finished fourth behind the Cardinals, Braves, and Astros, but would have made the playoffs. By the way, the Padres would have finished 7th

  5. i think the top two in the wildcard should have to play a 3 game series to get into the playoffs

  6. Absolutely not, I don't want the regular season to be rendered almost meaningless like in the NBA.  t least with the NFL there are so few regular season games that it basically feels like one long stretch run to the playoffs.

  7. When I was a youngster there were no playoffs. The two league champions played each other in the World Series. And most of the games were day games. The playoffs are taking so much time that, if they were expanded, MLB would have to replace the bunting on the stands with Christmas decorations!

  8. no. its what keeps baseball great.

  9. having 8 is just WAY too much, the post season would take longer than a month. Keeping it down just makes it more competative for the division race, and it keeps those .500 teams out of the playoffs, they just don't belong.

  10. Yes, I think they should and you bring up a really good point. Why do teams have to play a 162 game season just so if they finish with a nice winning record they still can't make the playoffs, that's terrible.  More teams should have a fair shot to win the playoffs. There are so many teams who deserve to go to the playoffs that don't go. When a league has 30 teams in it, 8 is very little. Anyway, extending the post season brings in more money.

  11. no, i hate how the NBA and NHL let like half the sport into the playoffs and the playoffs seem to take MONTHS and drag on. I like how baseball only allows 4 teams per league.

  12. It is unwise to compare leagues. In MLB, look at the wild card chase as the fourth division, with that winner qualifying for the show. Any more teams and the World Series will end around Thanksgiving.

  13. Teams are already playing until November right now. I don't want to see any baseball any later than that, especially in places like Boston.

And, personally, I'd cut the season back to 154 games (the way it was before 1961), so that we'd save another week-plus to get us back to mid-October.

  14. Yes I think there should be at least two more teams coming out of every league. Six for the American and six for the National League. It would make more people excited about baseball. They also need to shorten the season. It's too long and tends to drag on. When your team in in dead last at 25 and a half games back in September you don't really care all too much about the rest of the sport. Baseball owners and the commissioner need to modernize.

  15. I think we can All agree that the NBA playoffs are TOO long. 8 is out.

I guess I wouldn't mind a 6 team format. It might encourage two expansion teams to even up the AL.

    WILD CARD ROUND

3 seed(Weakest Division Winner) plays against 6 seed in 3 games. Winner plays 1 seed(Strongest Division winner) in next round.

4 seed plays against 5 seed in 3 games. Winner plays 2 seed(2nd Best division Winner) in next round.

    DIVISIONAL ROUND

1 seed plays against 3/6 seed in 5 games

2 seed plays against 4/5 seed in 5 games.

    LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND

Same as now, except in 5 games.

    WORLD SERIES

    Same as now.

Maximum 20 games for one team. Only one more than today's format.

    Expansion Team's Cities;

    Portland, OR (AL WEST)

    New Orleans, LA (AL CENTRAL)

No MLB team in Las Vegas. There would be WAY too much trouble. New Orleans even is a stretch.

    1. al east

    2. wild card

    3. al central

    4. al wets

    5. nl west

    6. nl east

    7. nl wild card

    8. nl central
