Question:

In your opinion, is a projector screen a necessity?

I'm spending most my money on the actual projector, and what I have left is nowhere enough to buy a screen as well. I was thinking on maybe making one myself...but is it necessary?

I have a large white wall in my room. Could that suffice as a screen? Or will the quality be bad or something? Not having a screen will definately be more convenient... as I use the same area for oxing...and it could get damaged.

Thanks

Sameh

  1. Stick with the white wall for now, but PLAN on Buying a gallon of that Screen paint with the glass beading in it....

I think you can buy it from DaLite...the BIG screen manufacturer from Warsaw, IN.....

Oh they make BIG screens....you oughta see the one at Ball State University.

The paint has glass beads in it and it makes the reflectivity of the wall much higher increasing the light being returned to your eyes....

It makes the picture POP !

  2. Screens do help, but most people wont be able to tell a difference in picture between screen and no screen. A white wall will still look good

You can try it, and if your not happy with it then you can go buy a screen.

  3. Walls, sheets or painted surfaces will not come close to offering you the video quality that projector screens can deliver. Check out ubid.com - click on the electronics link, type "projector screen" in the search bar and you'll be surprised how inexpensive screens are. Screen surfaces have special made pigmits and textures designed to enhance video features offered by the projection features in your unit. Don;t sell your self short. As you say you invested heavily in your projector, spend what it takes to take advantage of that investment.

  4. Yes and no.

Screens will display the image better than a wall will, but it is probably nessesary to buy a screen.

A white wall is a good start.  If the wall is painted with a flat paint and has a slight texture (not too textured) your even better off.

Glossy walls will tend to reflect a hotspot (a reflection of the lens) more than a flat wall will.
