I would guess that the most important difference is the product at the end of each of these processes. But I want to hear what other people have to say about this. Thanks people.

  1. ..well both of them have importance:

meiosis is significant during gamete division/reduction such that the product n is capable of being fertilized by either ovum/sperm for w/o meiosis fertilization will not occur since it has not reduced to normal from 2n and n for meiosis as the final product.

mitosis is widely important as well, for an organism's cell to grow, repair, etc.

  2. Meiosis occurs exclusively with respect to gametes.  It is the process by which the DNA can wind up single-stranded for recombination upon fertilization.

  3. The most important would be that meiosis occurs in gametes only and four cells are produced with half the amount of chromosomes.

  4. The number of chromosomes in the daughter cells.

  5. Mitosis produces two essentially identical cells from one.  Meiosis randomizes the genes and allows other processes like recombination and creates s*x cells with only one of each type of chromosomes.
