  1. Canon/Nikon or Nikon/Canon, depending on the assignment, lenses, and photographer.

Canon currently has the lead in fast and long lenses, as evidenced by their appearance on the sidelines of many sporting events.

Nikon finds itself roaming the world, capturing images for National Geographic and news organizations worldwide.

The new D3 and upcoming D3x(?) may sway the sports balance, as we've seen more Nikons at the Tour de France and at the US Open than before.

  2. Canon for sure, the D400 is ezcellent, i recommend it highly:)

  3. Actually, I feel the correct method for an SLR is to figure out how you will be using it, one of the main reasons for buying one is flexibility after all. Sports? Indoors? Closeup? Then you are on your way to figuring out whether that brand can support your needs. It could even be matter of accessory price, memory format etc. Do you need a selection of PC lenses, macro, etc.

Personally, I'm partial to Nikon since I can still use their lens that I bought 30 years ago.

  4. Oh man! That's like asking what's the best car or the best anything. You are going to get a different answer from each person. Sony, Canon and Nikon are at the top of the pile in my opinion.

It all depends on how much you have to spend because each can have pros and cons depending on the price point, and it all depends on what you need or want to do.

    Bottom three models for each

    Canon XS, XSi, 40d

    Sony Alpha A200, A300/350 A700

    Nikon D40x, D60, D80

Check 'em all out, all winners, just different pros and cons.

  5. olympus!

  6. I'd go for a Canon first and then an Olympus...but depends on what you want to do with it...a compact digital camera is great for holiday snaps but a bigger camera is better for the more "professional" touch.

  7. CANON followed by Nikon.

On a tight budget? ......Eos 450D

Bigger budget? ......Eos 5D (or wait for its imminent successor)

    Bigger still? ......Eos 1Ds mk3  (or a secondhand 1Ds mk2)

For most people the Eos 450D is a great camera

  8. Canon makes their own image sensors all the rest rely on Sony. Canon is ahead in digital lens design while the rest are trying to play catch up. So, with that you can draw your own conclusion.
