  1. It just depends on what kind of character you portray.  Like ingenue/romantic lead, character actor, etc.  Also, the biggest kind of range that you can show for musicals, is to pick a ballad song, that tends to show off more of your vocal quality and then more of kind of a peppy song that you can really play up to show your acting capabilities.

  2. well it can be any song except any of these

    1. Reflections from Mulan

    2. Think of Me from Phantom of the Opera

    3. Popular from Wicked

    4. On My Own from Les Miserables

    5. Colors of the Wind from Pochahantas

    6. Mr. Cellophane from Chicago

those are huge nono's for auditions

  3. A good audition song is one which:

    - Suits your voice quality and voice type

    - Suits the character you are auditioning for

    - Is appropriate to the show you are auditioning for (similar style, time period and same composer if you can manage it)

    - Isn't overdone - so no Wicked, RENT, Les Mis, Legally Blonde, Hairspray, or Phantom of the Opera (among others)

There's a great book called "So You Want to Tread the Boards" which has long lists of good auditions songs and other excellent advice, I'd advise you to get hold of it and have a read!

  4. TOMORROW from the musical ANNIE

  5. Depends on your voice level (Soprano, Alto, etc)

I love to sing these songs for auditions:

    Tomorrow- Annie

    Seasons of Love- Rent

Somewhere Over The Rainbow- Wizard of Oz
