There's nothing more beautiful to me than a spectacular sunset, especially at the end of a terrible day. Where do you think gets the best sunsets? Do you know why, I mean, scientifically? Or is one place special to you because of other factors? Pictures would be lovely but optional :) Thanks!

  1. The west coast of Scotland has amazing sunsets.  I believe this is due to the fact that most of the UK's weather fronts come from the west and therefore when the sun sets it creates lovely colours in the variety of clouds.

However, I have to say that I've seen beautiful sunsets in Australia and the Gulf Coast of Florida too, but I'm Scottish so I vote "ours" the best!

Note to celery - it's not cold if you wear some Scottish woollies and warm yourself with a dram or two   ;o)

  2. the best one I've ever seen was over one of the scottish islands(west coast)

  3. The best I've seen were in the southwestern US.  The colors just match perfectly with the pastel colors of the desert, especially the Grand Canyon.

When the sun falls low in the sky the light passes through the atmosphere of the earth, so the air here is the most dense.  The longer wavelengths of yellow, orange and red pass through the more dense air easier than the blue green wavelengths, so we see nice sunsets.

  4. anywhere between d mountains , or anywhere sinking down in d sea.

  5. i know it sounds weird, but there's this place in scotland on the coast (outer hebrides??) that looks just like the caribbean, with clear blue water. It would be really popular if it wasn't so d**n cold up there!

  6. One of the best I saw was off the coast of Florida looking out onto the water. As for what causes the best sunsets  (you may want to skip this answer cause it will make you a little sad...)

It's pollution that causes the best sunsets, when both particulate matter (dust, ash) and various gases such as methane, carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide get thrown into the atmosphere they reflect and refract the light giving it those wonderful deep reds, and oranges as well as making the sunset look bigger.
