  1. Brian May of Queen

Just look at the tabs of his work and you will understand.  The man uses nothing but bends, hammer ons and pull offs, and very rarely do you just see plain strings being hit.

He built his guitar from scratch with his father, and he was a revolutionary guitar player for the best band of the 80s

  2. Link Wray http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LUHz0i8_z...

    Rory Gallagher http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=33Jaodra7...

Ricky Wilson (original B-52s guitarist) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-UqKRGW6_...

  3. Me.

Seriously though kurt cobain was good. And Prince was suprisingly good too.

  4. Michael Karoli of Can

  5. Ritchie Blackmore-Deep Purple, Rainbow.

  6. Matthew Bellamy of Muse

Yeah, I know the trade mags give him props as being one of the top 10 living guitarists but it would be nice now and then to mention his skills to people without getting the blank stare.....

  7. slash and tony iommi

  8. It says a lot about his unratedness that I can't even remember his name, but he is Tom Petty's guitarist. I think his last name is Campbell?

  9. In rock, Richard Thompson.  If he received the credit he truly deserves, in every poll on "best guitarist" he'd be eight of the top ten, he's THAT good.

In country, Merle Travis.  Chet Atkins started as a drummer but wanted to play like Merle.  Although he ended up playing like Chet, which was pretty good, he couldn't hold a candle to Travis.

  10. Ed O'Brien of Radiohead

  11. Jimmy Page.

He was one of the PREEMINENT guitarist of his day.

Modern guitarist and fans have NO IDEA of how good he still is!

  12. RORY GALLAGHER.

    Like seriously.

Plus, he was a huge influence on Jimmy Page - you can even hear it. :)

  14. I was all set to start ranting about Jeff Beck, but then I read Lady Trons response ( man she's smart ) and would have to agree with her on the Rory Gallagher, but Jeff Beck is definitely the second most under rated guitarist.

  15. Ray Toro.

  16. Angus Young

  17. Robin Trower

  18. Joe Walsh: he recorded some of the most recognizable tracks of the 70s, while playing with the James Gang, the Eagles, and solo, but is never really recognized. Aside from playing on some of rock's most recognizable tracks, he taught Peter Frampton how to use the talk box.
