  1. We are afraid of the unknown. People also have the fear of looking back at their life and realizing they haven't lived it tom the fullest.

  2. Because life is so good and they don't want it to be over. Plus, it might hurt.

  3. I'm not afraid of death. It's a natural part of life. They way I go out is an entirely different matter!

  4. people dont want to miss out on life, or they are afraid they were bad people and will go to the other place apart from heaven, then again who would WANT to die? People dont want to leave their loved ones and family either. And they dont want to face what will happen next. And some people are probably afraid it will be painful. But it really depends on what religion you are and what you believe in.

  5. Come on baby don't fear the reaper, baby take my hand...

  6. Like when you think about it, when you die, you literally arent there anymore.

    it is kinda scary.

  7. ...my opinion is they want to make better their life before they go...

  8. People are afraid because they don't know what happens after you die. I mean, some people believe 100% that they'll go to heaven, so they don't fear death.

People like me are afraid of being dead, because we know that it means you stop existing. I like existing, and being dead is a pretty scary thought.

Death? It's only a few minutes of pain, and then it passes. Death isn't that scary. Being dead is.

  9. it's an instinct I guess...

plus thinking of it can lead to more fear of the unknown which is to come... that's when religion gets handy ...

  10. I think people are afraid of the unknown.

  11. Two things: horrible pain (doesn't everyone secretly fear they will die tragically and horribly?) and the unknown~is it really the end or might you burn?

  12. it is the final test, but no one fails it...

  13. Because we don't know what happens to us after we die.No one has come back to tell us what to expect. It is the unknown that scares us.

  14. the pain and the fear of whats beyond

  15. People are afraid of the unknown and nobody has ever come back from the dead to testify and let us know what's on the other side.  I personally am more afraid of the pain I may suffer before I die, not of death itself.

  16. It is the unknown. And then Religion can scare a lot of people.

  17. P.952 - §3 Death was the supreme shock to evolving man, the most perplexing combination of chance and mystery. Not the sanctity of life but the shock of death inspired fear and thus effectively fostered religion. Among savage peoples death was ordinarily due to violence, so that nonviolent death became increasingly mysterious. Death as a natural and expected end of life was not clear to the consciousness of primitive people, and it has required age upon age for man to realize its inevitability.

The death fear was disturbing in conjunction with the biologic instinct

    of self-preservation.

The primitives feared sickness because they observed it was often the beginning of death.

The savage lived in fear of the ghosts of his fellows and spent his spare time planning for the safe conduct of his own ghost after death.

If there is no survival of eternal values in the evolving soul of man, then mortal existence is without meaning, and life itself is a tragic illusion.

  18. In spite of any religious faith or devotion, no one knows or can know for certain what happens after death.  Yet it is unavoidable that we all die so... it's kind of a Catch-22, an unknown everyone must face regardless of whether they feel they have the courage to or not.
