In your opinion are the Welsh teams clubs or regions?

Would you be more inclined to support the Blues, the Dragons or the Scarlets iff they dropped Cardiff, Newport and Llanelli from their team names?

Do you see the Ospreys as the "one true region" despite the fact they play all their games in Swansea?

Do people not from Cardiff, Newport, Llanelli and Swansea/Neath support a regional team or do they follow a local semi-proffessional club?

Do rugby fans outside of Wales refer to the teams by their nicknames or their old club names?

  1. Superclubs formed by the enforced amalgamation of traditional clubs so as to compete in professional environment.

  2. From outside Wales, I'm guessing nicknames.

Can't sound out the old club names. I trained with a Welsh club for about a month. Still can't pronounce the real name. Sounded something close to Penrith but was spelled the Welshy way and just didn't roll off my tongue the way the locals said it. I was never sure of the real name. - Yes, easily confused by words, but I can lift heavy things.

Edit: Like I said nonenzedder, I can lift heavy things, but words . . .

I was living in Cardiff, but I drove my shitbox Combi up to Glamorgan to practice. I'm not sure if their strip was red and white or black and white, maybe red and white.

  3. Oh Damien and Nonenzed, please stop this feud!

I think he may mean Penarth!

Anyway, I supported Neath and our main rivals were Swansea, so I now support my old club and the rivals, Ospreys.

But root for Neath RFC all the same!

I would not support the other regions as they are not in my area, regardless of whether they dropped their town/city name.

The reason the Ospreys play  their games in Swansea, is because the Liberty is a first class stadium!

    Nothing to do with location!

The Ospreys are by far the most successful team of all the regions, but one must ask the question, whether regional rugby was a good thing for Welsh rugby?

Should the Warriors have been disbanded?

As for what I call them.........the Ospreys of course, because the  clubs are still going and play in the Welsh Premiership!

By the way bugaboo..........The Bluebirds are a football team, you know the one, the round ball game!

  4. They're clubs..

  5. Llanelli Scarlets and the Blues are considered by their supporters as Super Clubs.

The Ospreys are definately a region...(Neath and Swansea) they even call the region "ospreylia"

The "Newport" Gwent Dragons just suck..They are supposed to be a region but act nothing like one. Talk too their fans and they want it to  be Newport...(Cardiff and Llanelli are clubs..so why not them too)..even though it is supposed to be a alliance of some really old and famous clubs (that used to whip Newports **** consistantly)..this matters not one jot to the **** heads of Newport.

Officially they are all regions though..and the wru are financing regions not super clubs..Though In the minds of supporters, owners, private financers and sponsors..it is seen somewhat differently.

At the end of the day the regions have got to find their own way and if it is not commercialy viable or too expensive..for them to appeal to the whole regions..or play games away from their home bases...they won't..and the WRU will just let them get away with it, as they have no clout whatsoever. They got what they wanted.. and won't start rocking the boat now.
