  1. Education encompasses both the teaching and learning of knowledge, proper conduct, and technical competency. It thus focuses on the cultivation of skills, trades or professions, as well as mental, moral & aesthetic development

Formal education consists of systematic instruction, teaching and training by professional teachers. This consists of the application of pedagogy and the development of curricula. In a liberal education tradition, teachers draw on many different disciplines for their lessons, including psychology, philosophy, information technology, linguistics, biology, and sociology.

therefore, education is not just limited to classroom learning. it ranges from a mother teaching her children to a academic attending teleconference.

  2. To me, education is whatever you learn from; be it in class, on Discovery Channel, reading,or anything of the like. You areeducating yourself anytime you learn something new, wherever it is.

  3. education is "for life" - ie, learning throughtout life, learning the skills to live life, .. .

education is learning & imbibing & internalizing in any & every situation throughout life. it is a process of self-discovery

it is also, not limited to academic curricular/cocurricular learning within the confines of a classroom or lecture hall.

education is not age-bound -- it is not limited to a certain phase of one's life.

education invloves all aspects of life - intellectual, emotional, social, skill/vocational,...

It can take place even in the home, office, club, playground, hospital, airport,  ......

it is not merely memorizing & gaining credits - it is the application, usage, differentiation, ..of that knowledge in everyday life situations/problems

the teaching-learning process within a classroom is usually termed pedagogy. it can become "educational" if/when the teacher & learner move beyond the curricular aspects & learn of things/techniques/strategies that will come in handy in one's life, & their consequences & results...

when the teacher too learns something from the students, it would be education.

    here's a quote i like --

Sixty years ago I knew everything; now I know nothing; education is a progressive discovery of our own ignorance.
