  1. My husband and I make decent money - but still work hard for what we have.  3 years ago we bought a house- nice 2 story house- one of the first rules I made for my kids were that ABSOLUTELY NO OIL BASED PAINT on the walls, second rule was NOTHING BAD- no gang type, no cuss words or nasty pics- anything else goes.  It is just walls!  We have had a lot of fun and have painted and repainted everyone's rooms whenever we feel like it.

    We have just ripped out the carpet in my son's room and we have made his floor into an aquarium- painting fish an other sea creatures- real and imaginary on the floor-  on one wall is a big apple tree with butterflies and flowers, one wall is a night sky with glow in the dark moon and stars-  I don't know what he will choose to do with the other two walls- but we will all get in there and paint and have fun.

    My oldest daughter has painted jets and other plains on her walls- but prefers no help because it is her personal stress relief.

    I think we should decorate the world we live in.  AND if we decide to move- how much is a gallon of white paint?  The memories we created have been priceless!

  2. your room if its bad you can close the door lol. just make it nice maybe after they see the awsome job you do they will let you loose on the rest of the walls.

  3. when i was just a baby, well maybe not a baby, but i was very very young. i got into some black paint cans that my mother had left out in the kitchen. not really aware of what i was doing, i bagn to paint our kitchen counter and sink and faucet and cabinets and floor. my mom said the smell of the paint woke her up form her nap. when she saw me and what i was doing her tore into me like the fires of h**l. i still remember this even til this day. afterward by many years, my mother often says she wishes that she would not have been so hard on me for making that mistake. it lead her to let me paint my own room when i was a young teen. i had no idea of course that this was her reason for letting me paint my room til several years later. its a strange story but one that ill never forget. if i have children, i will let them paint their room. mainly because it is their room. their personality that they want to express. its only paint and it can be a lot of fun for both of you. i say do it to it and have fun!

  4. I would let my child choose the color because it's going to be their room and he will be spending time in it so would. Actually when we moved into our new house we did let him choose the color for his room and he went with a blue but it was his choice. We went to the store and he went through the samples and picked the one he like. I think it helps them feel a part of the decision process especially moving into a new place with them having to make new friends it makes the transition easier.

  5. I would let them paint their room! It can be repainted later if they wish it.

    The best thing is that they'll learn about paint! They'll probably get bored, and won't finish the job, so they may never want to paint their room themselves again xD (that can be a good thing)

    ~Make sure you cover the floor around the walls beforehand.

  6. paint can be covered or repainted.

    but suppressing a child cannot be undone.

    let their creativity run wild!

  7. Let them have their room the way they want it.It's their only space.Pick your battles wisely,this is a small issue.If you don't like their choice,keep the door closed

  8. Definitely not. Painting the walls of a house is not creativity. The main reason walls in a house are painted is so that the walls will last longer. For this to happen, there is a special technique to applying the paint. No child has the strength, height and patience to accomplish this. Looking  pristine is a distant second reason for painting walls. And even here, a child is too short to reach the top of the walls. So no matter how good-intentioned you are about developing your child's creativity, painting a wall is not the way to go. There are dozens of other easier ways to properly develop a child's creativity. Check the biographies of all great artists and you won't find one who started off with painting a wall in a house. Michelangelo painted a ceiling. Just one. Ceilings don't count for the purposes of answering your question.
