  1. In my opinion, morality is a human concept with little or no bearing on the quality/consequence of our journey thru this plane.   What is considered moral/immoral in this current culture, was not necessarily considered so in other times/cultures.  So, in a way, it is only popular opinion.

It is not for me to Judge another.  Only myself.  I know in my soul what is correct action and what is not.  Don't you?  If we all stopped judging others actions and being self-righteous and started changing our own, (which ultimately makes more sense, because we can't change THEM, but we CAN change OURSELVES) the effect would be.......

    well, you can imagine....

  2. i think.. a moral person cares about wether their actions are right or wrong, cares about their actions effect on their character, and tries to stick to a code of actions that the believe is right ♥

  3. A moral person is aware of the consequences to their actions. Not only that, they adopt a consequentialist view point in so far as they are not willing to perform an act that will harm more people than not (so long as they have a rational way of working that out) they that is a moral person.

An immoral person can not make the connection between act and consequence and is not interested in human benefit on any scale.

  4. In the great tradition of American freedom, morality as a matter of ethics can only be addressed when it involves denying or limiting someone else's freedoms to a point where legislation or the enforcement of existing laws must be taken up.

But in the private sphere, where people do all sorts of things that to others are perverted or hedonistic, morality must remain a personal choice.

Is morality something that can be identified objectively? Yes. The Constitution is that identity and is partly based on Aristotle's idea of Man qua Man, as transmitted to the Founders via Aristotle himself and through Locke and others. Aristotle's "qua" stands today as a shining beacon of reason regarding morality, both private and public (legislatively.)

But the freedoms granted by the Constitution allow us the freedom to be immoral is we wish--behind closed doors and only with consenting adults.

  5. Moral people consider the consequences of their actions--not always before they make them, but at least once. They make decisions based on a code of ethics that is not just good for themselves, but good for those who will be involved. Then, they take responsibility for what they do--whether it's effective or ineffective, whether it works out well, or whether it doesn't.

An immoral person considers only him/herself when taking actions, and makes choices based on how much they can gain--no matter who or what it would hurt.  An immoral person would know the difference between right and wrong, and choose wrong anyway because they would benefit in some way. And even when told that their actions were hurtful, they would not take responsibility for them.

This is why it is important to teach children morality very young--because a child is basically without morals until they realize that their actions have consequences--at around age 5. (some earlier, some later.)

  6. The moral person considers before taking an action: "Will my action hurt someone else in some way? Is that acceptable compared to my own interests and goals?"

  7.   Respect or the lack of.
