  1. Stan Musial, 20 time allstar, 3 time world series champion, 3 time NL MVP, 3630 hits (725 of them doubles, 177 triples), career .331 average.  and he managed to do this even though he missed several years fighting in the war.  In my opinion, the best in the biz

  2. I don't want to sound like a broken record, but I gotta say Babe Ruth. His stats are amazing and his legacy in unmatched by any other player in any sport.

If A-Rod slips a few rings on his fingers, he'll be up at the top, too.

  3. Babe ruth

    A-rod

  4. Ted Williams.

The guy has amazing stats and was an awesome player, he also missed his prime while fighting in WWII.

  5. Babe Ruth.

    Pitcher and Outfielder.

    No Doubt.

He has the Second Most Home Runs in History the RIGHT Way.

He did it with Beer not 'Roids.

  6. Babe Ruth, without question.  A great slugger who also hit for average, 714 home runs and lifetime batting average of .342.  Plus a pitching record of 94-46 and a 2.28 ERA.  Anybody who argues that someone else is better is just plain wrong!

  7. no question, the babe. any current player should not even be mentioned in this question.

  8. I'm glad I re-read the question and saw "overall" at the end.  Overall, I'd take Willie Mays over Babe Ruth any day and here's why.

. Mays was a FAR superior defensive player to Ruth, and he played a FAR more important, and challenging, defensive position (CF for Mays; RF for Ruth)

. Yes Ruth hit over 710 HR's, but Mays hit 660 himself, and he didn't have Lou Gehrig hitting behind him, or in front of him for most of his career, as Ruth did.

. If you absolutely NEEDED to play "small ball" (i.e- If you needed him to lay down a bunt, or hit-and-run..) Willie Mays COULD do that, too.  Ruth simply could not.

. The fact that yes, Ruth WAS a great SP, too, is trumped by the fact that if he WOULD be used as a pitcher, he would not be as effective at the plate.  No human being can be a HOF calibre pitcher AND a HOF calibre hitter at the SAME TIME.  It would simply be too taxing on his body.  If he could have done it, don't you think he would have??

  9. Ted Williams; He hit over .400 once and was a feared slugger his whole career. He lost a few good years by serving in our U>S> Air Force. He was feared by every pitcher in baseball.

  10. Babe Ruth was the greatest. Also to consider Jackie Robinson

  11. This is a tough question. I still personally regard The Babe as the best all time.

  12. Currently i would i say Barry Bonds. Dude was  a dawg, steroids or not.

but in about 10 years its going to ALEX RODRIGUEZ

  13. Ruth.

One of the three best hitters ever (with a solid claim to being #1) plus a d**n good pitcher.

Geez, this is a tired question. Askers should be required to clarify why they think it may be anyone other than Ruth. At least it would then have comedy value, however slight.

  14. willie mays. now you say willie mays? i say ya, now here is a guy who played offence and defense at a high level, now babe didnt do that. he was to fat to run the bases in the latter part of his career. but they were both good.

babe may be the best player though, im just changing my answer because there was a guy that played offence and defense and i dont care about babes  pitching.
