  1. No... but it should be...  If feminists are going to give the world **** for people treating them like women, then they should get no special treatment.  It's gotta go both ways...  You can't  have your cake and eat it too.

    P.S.

I hate that saying.  Why would you get cake if you're not going to eat it?

    P.P.S.

same thing goes for racism.  You shouldn't get special treatment for being a different race... i.e.  colored scholar ships etc... you can't  complain about racism and promote it at the same time.

    P.P.P.S.

Just making a point.  Chivalry is good.

  2. It all depends where you are and hatr social circles you mix in. My husband and father are very chivalrious. We see it as just good manners and ettiquette.

  3. No, chivalry is alive and well in DC where it is used by NOW to get legislation like VAWA onto the books. Most evidence proves that women commit domestic violence as often as men, yet men get no help, no shelters, no assistance. It's still called the Vioilence Against WOMEN Act why? Chivalry.

  4. Not sure if it's entirely dead, but there is little reason for it to exist these days.

Which in some ways is a shame, I think both men and women could benefit from being more polite, respectful and courteous.

  5. As long as you're not dealing with a feminist, it's alive and well.

  6. No, I don't think so.  I still see people offering to pack someones groceries into their car, people picking up dropped items for another person, guys opening doors and walking their date to the door, people buying homeless people sandwiches, ....you name it.  I'm glad it's not dead and hope it never dies.

  7. No; thinking that when it does die out; it will be held in a special place in our memory; something of which we can read and or write about.  Then one day we find ourselves driving along; when we happen upon a stray kitten or puppy; naturally, if able we rescue it, or if we help a friend in need; then we know chivalry is still alive; it's alive within us. In this way it will never die.

  8. Chivalry is dead, courtesy is not.

  9. I can absolutely confirm that there is not an ounce of chivalry left.  Anywhere.  Period.  I have actually had grown men push me out of the way to take seats on the subway.  Holding doors?  Nope.  Behaving like a gentleman?  Double nope.

It's really not about the romantic idea of chivalry.  Its really more of acting like a civilized human being.  Either way its not happening.

  10. Chivalry is dead. Feminism killed it.

  11. im a man and i say no, i respect my mom and my three sisters and my girlfriend, i open doors for them and carry their luggages

  12. To many people it is.

I have a friend I refer to as a closet misogynist. He's not chivalrous in the least, but he's endearingly sweet for someone who, in his words "is constantly disappointed by women. Starting with my mother."

Most of the guys I know do not do the chivalry thing. (This is, however, the US Army.)

Once I walked into a smoke shack with a couple guy friends, and a couple Navy guys were already sitting inside. I was first to enter from my group, and one of the Navy men stood and kind of bowed his head towards me and waited until I sat to reseat himself. I was completely flabbergasted.

I do have one friend in the Army who experiences "fits" of chivalry (he'll always usher me to go first, opens doors, etc etc) but every once in awhile he overcomes his basic nature and whacks me across the arm with a drumstick when I start messing up on Rock Band.

I think chivalry is still here, but hidden... they bring it out on girls they come to respect or have interest in. All other women are equal to them and not worth the investment.

  13. Chivalry is a medieval code of conduct for knights, similar to the samurai code of Bushido. So, yes it is dead.

  14. I don't think so. Many men are courteous and thoughtful to me when I least expect it. It's quite rare these days that anyone is disrespectful towards me, but I am friendly to them as well.

Now driving on the other hand, psssh, don't get me started!

  15. As long as you believe in chivalry, it will never die.

  16. Chivalry is largey dead because of the feminist movement which has essentially declared that traditional gestures of courtesy are effectively discriminatory or oppressive toward women.

  17. to most guys yes it surely is. not this guy though

  18. not dead.. but rare

  19. For some people no, but for the most part, yes. People don't go out of their way to help others anymore. People are polite, but manners only go so far and some are quick to change politeness to rudeness.

  20. No, it's not :P

    I'm very chivalrous.

Girls in Mexico seem to like it, even the feminist ones.

I find it...strange the fact that you think it's discrimination while it's not.

I hold the doors FOR everyone or just the girls...so what? who would get offended if someone opens the door?...Now if someone closes it in your face, and holds it closed, there's a problem.

I'm not trying to be offensive, i just don't understand it.
