I personally think floaters are the best. Since they move unpredictably its hard for the opposing team to read them and get a good pass to the setter. I also think shorts are just as good.

  1. Jump serves. They have to be hard ones though. Not the kind that  girls do  who are just excited it actually goes over. It has to be very hard, consistant and you must have some sense of what direction its going to.

  2. Well, for women it is the jump float serve. Only like 1% of girls players can hit hard enough to do a good jump topspin serve.

For the best guys, topspin or a diagonal spin jump serve is best.

I use jump top spin and jump float serves 80% of the time. I think standing floaters are becoming outdated.

  3. topspin serve

  4. If someone has a very good floater then the floater would be best.  I like serving the ball long a couple of times, then when they move back serving it short.

  5. you are correct-unless your jump serve can veer to the right or left at the last minute...that can be added in as effective as well.  However, there is by far a way greater chance for error.  Floats and short serves are the hardest to pass for sure.  I mediocre jump, or spin serve is as easy as a dig.

  6. Depends on the team you're playing against.  You just have to find their weakness.  Even mix it up to keep them on their toes!  This also depends on your personal range of serves.  I like a good floater.  When we're playing I find that unless you place the ball just right on a hard drive jump serve, a lot of people feel that those are fairly easy to return.  I like to float deep on the line or just short over the net.

  7. over-hand serves are the best (as long as they are consistent and accurate)

they should be faster, lower, and harder to get

  8. I think overhand.

My reasoning is because the volleyball will go right where you aim at it. They are so powerful and if enough you can even  hit it where they cant return the server. The underhand and sidearm go far in the air and sometimes even so far up that they come down light and they have no power at all.

  9. i would agree that float serves are deadly, its tough to know where its going to land since it moves so much. another serve that i think is also good are hard hit jumpserves with lots of topspin, both of these serves im sure gets the passers nervous

  10. underhand cuz i cant do any other one

  11. float-jump float-jump top spin-top spin-short

  12. if you actually play volleyball you would know floaters and short floaters are the best, a normal lollipop short serve is easy to pass, also a really hard jump serve is incredibly easy to pass because you don't have to move unless its a top player who gets sick topspin to drop before the passer

  13. floaters or a topspin serve...

  14. My coach told my team that floaters are the best because the way they zig-zag a little in the air, and then they also will suddenly drop. They are harder to pass up. Topspin are easier because you just have to get your platform out and line up with the ball and it'll go right off your platform and be a good pass (most of the time).

I'm working on my floater, but right now I have like a topspin serve and its working really good.

Yeah, once you get to high school an underhand serve won't work (just saying that to people who think those are the best). High school passers are obviously good enough to get a high, slow ball.

  15. overhand serve where u hit with ur palm

if u hit correctly wa-la a knuckle ball

  16. serve it underhand

  17. jump serve

  18. I would say windmill --- because you can get extra spin on this, and when people first receive it, it catches them unawares.  Also you can do it all day, and not tire out.

But any serve which ends up in the right place - that is awkward to reach, is effective... when receivers contact it too late, they lose it...

  19. The one that lands in.

I've seen jump servers try and try and try and never get a ball in. They keep trying though because everyone tells them that aren't good unless they jump serve.

I've seen players on the same team serve simple overhand floaters or topspins and get aces.

The jump serve is good if you can jump high and hit the ball down with a lot of topspin. If you can't do this and hit the ball out, quit using it in games.

Once you get the floater and the standing topspin down, then practice the jump serve.

  20. I think a hard and deep jump serve with down spin is the best, its hard to judge in or out, and if it IS is, tems have a hard time getting a good pass to the setter.  I like useing both a down spin jump serve and a jump float in games, it confuses ur opponent.

  21. Well, things change.

When I was playing in college more than ten years ago, floaters were thought to be most effective and everyone was serving floaters.  Even most Olympic or professional players were using floaters.  But these days, almost all high level players do jump serves.  I guess that as players have become taller and can jump higher, 30 ft. attack has become more effective.

But it all depends on what you can do best.  It is not a bad idea to go with the new trend but you should stick with what you can do better.
