Social change has or can have several dimensions. There is also macro and micro changes. For example:

Economic changes create social change. (Marx)

Religious movements can bring society together. (Durkheim)

Education can reduce poverty, health, and well being.

Overall, true social change must be large scale, have a clear implementation process, and hopefully effect things positively. Sometimes social change is bringing old ideas and representing them, while other social changes are innovative. This can be seen in women, minority movements, and enviromental grass roots movements to name a few.
