  1. We have laws to protect special people.  We shouldn't NEED laws to protect special people.  We should all have enough kindness in our hearts that these types of laws should not be neccessary.  Unfortunately, that's not the case.

  2. I assume by special you mean they have a disability of some kind. In that case, we have the laws to protect anyone that has a disability. Yes, these laws are needed.

  3. Are you referring to a special needs person? Mentally slow? Someone that can't really think logically? Those people seem to be taken advantage of and need to be protected.

  4. Its a sad fact, that many people with a disability have been abused in some form. These laws are needed to protect people with a disability from being EXPLOITED & ABUSED (in all forms), and ensures that they are given the same respect, care and access to education everyone else gets.

Where as previously those with a disability either severe or mild, were largely ignored, often institutionalized or never given the opportunity to gain an education, employment, and be part of the community, let alone decent medical care.

  5. Considering kids with mental retardation may have been chained to bed or be kept in the fenced in area under the front porch a hundred years ago, I think special laws are needed.

Laws are only means of punishing those who do something ethically wrong.

Now go do your own homework!  :)

  6. We need these laws (and more should be in place actually) to protect our most vaulnerable members of society.  Because of discrimination and the ease of getting lost in the system, it is necessary to keep laws in place for protection purposes.

  7. For years, up until 1974, people who had learning disabilities  were placed in the back of the class and simply ignored. Teachers thought they were stupid or lazy and decided to let them fail.  It was not understood that there was a real problem with learning that could be overcome.  Students with mental retardation often weren't even allowed to attend regular schools at all.  These children were forced into 'special schools' with inadequate resources or were nothing more than classes on how to string beads if their parents wanted them 'educated'.  Otherwise they stayed at home.

Children with disabilities were not given the opportunity to learn or socialize with others.  They were treated as less than a human being because no one wanted to 'deal with' them.  They were discriminated against and that is wrong.

The educational system had to be forced to include them in the educational process in an equal fashion, just at the same system had to be forced to include African-Americans in the classroom in an equal fashion.  This is the answer to the first part of your question.

As for special attention, yes they need it.  Why?  Because they require assistance in order to progress in the general curriculum.  They are capable kids and can learn a lot if given the proper accommodations.  The law ensures that they get them.

  8. A special child needs protection.
