  1. 1 - 4 stars, no tribute.

    5 or 6 stars, 1 tribute.

    7+ stars, 2 tributes.

...unless a card says so. The rules are the same for both a Normal Summon and Set.

  2. set and normal summon are the same except setting a card means normal summoning it face down. you cannot set a monster face up, only when u special summon u can put it face up defense or attack.

u dont have to sacrifice monster(s) to set a monster card, unless it was level 4 or above.

if you have 5 monsters on the field, and u want to tribute 1 monster to set a lvl 6 monster from ur hand, yes u can do that.

  3. You can sacrifice monsters to summon another one in the following senarios:

1)the monster you want to summon is more than 4 stars

       -1 tribute for 5,6 star, 2 for 7+ stars

2)the monster you want to summon have an effect that dictates or suggests the number of tributes needed or summoning conditions

    examples:

    -god cards need 3 tributes

-Cyber dragon: no tributes needed if opponent have monster on their side of field and you dont

-gilford the lightning: You can CHOOSE to use three tributes to activate its effect

And note: the 1st person who answered doesn't know his/her stuff so ignore.

  4. only if the level is higher than 4 or if a card has an effect that needs a monster tributed to activate.

    lvl.5-6:1 tribute

    lvl. 7and up: 2 tributes

I know it's kinda weird, since in yu-gi-oh the 1st episode the people summoned lvl 7 and up monsters without tributes.

  5. YES, you do have to tribute monsters to Summon OR Set a higher level monster card (Lv. 5-6 = 1 Tribute) (Lv. 7+ = 2 Tributes). Unless the monster being placed has a special requirement, you need to tribute monsters regardless of battle position.

  6. if the star level of the monster is 5-6 then you have to sacrifice a monster, if the level is 7 or higher then its 2 monsters. also some cards will say that you need to sacrifice 3 to summon it, for example the god cards

  7. yes you do with the exeption of fusilier the dual mode beast who can be normal summoned or set without tribute in which case his atk and def are halved and majestic mecks have special summon conditions which involve them being destroyed at the end phase, everyone else is correct about level of monsters and tributes exept the 1st person

  8. the person above ( :D ) is wrong. if you have five monster cards then you can't play another one.

You only need to tribute to set cards if the card is above five stars (4 star cards and below are fine without a tribute)

  9. no yooh dont have to sacrifice unless the monster has more than 4 stars

    1-4 no sacrifice

    5-6 1 sacrifice

    7+ 2 sacrifices

    good luck hope i helped

  10. i think if u already have a certain number of monster cards out, lyk 5, then u have to sacrifice one of them to put another monster card out.
