Question:

InFocus LP335 problems?

I recently had my boss walk into my office and set an InFocus LP335 (its a rather old projector) projector on my desk and tell me "it doesn't work" no explanation, no in depth complaint. I set it up and face it against the wall and power it up. It turns on, finds a a signal and is fine. for 86 seconds.then dies. after that i cant start it again unless i pull the power cord and plug it back in. the problem has repeated itself many times, and i went ahead and pulled the fans and vents and dusted them thoroughly. I've never really worked on a projector and know the basics, but not much. Any help would be great,

Thanks!

  1. There is probably some component that's gone out of spec (ie, gone bad, but not completely broken).  It might be the bulb, or it might be some other part of the high voltage power supply.  There's probably a safety circuit that monitors certain voltages and shuts things down when they go out of range.

Your first guess with the fans & filters was a good one, since there's probably also a safety circuit that monitors temperatures.

Unfortunately, without a service manual, I wouldn't know exactly what to check next.  There does seem to be a place that offers a service manual for this projector, so perhaps you might want to check that out.
