Inbee Park aspires to become world number one
South Korean Inbee Park, who has moved up to the top in the Rolex Player of the Year standings thanks to nine straight top-10 finishes and a victory, has said that her main goal for the current year is to become world number one.
Currently ranked seventh in the Women’s World Golf Rankings, Park has emerged as a growing threat for most of the top-ranked Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) stars, but she still has a long way to go in order to seize the top spot in world rankings.
Sharing her aims for the 2012 season while speaking to the LPGA Tour, Park said that she has now topped the list of the Rolex Player of the Year, but she needs to make all-out efforts to beat all the top-ranked contenders.
For that to happen, the South Korean golfer will have to add more victories to her profile in the current season.
“My goals for this year would be winning low scoring average and money list. And for my career, I want to become the No. 1 player in the world and be a Hall of Fame member,” Park said during her latest interview.
Right now, the LPGA titan boasts just one victory on the LPGA Tour. She displayed an electrifying performance at the Evian Masters 2012 as she inflicted a two-stroke defeat on her nearest rivals, Stacy Lewis of the United States and Australian Karrie Webb.
According to the points system designed by the LPGA Tour, the triumph at Evian Masters was not enough to put Park on top of the Rolex Player of the Year list, but her nine consecutive top-ten finishes did the trick, helping her rise to the top.
Park’s performance has been phenomenal since she turned professional back in 2006. In the last three years, all she has been able to do is record a string of top-ten finishes,   but she has failed to grab attention due to fewer wins.
The South Korean golfer has recorded only two LPGA victories so far, but she is keen to emerge as a player known to win titles.
“It sure felt like longer than four years, but I had good seasons here and there during those four years, so I tried to give myself confidence and tried to trust myself,” Park said.
