Inbee Park finishes runner-up at CN Canadian Women’s Open 2012
South Korean Inbee Park shot a 69 in the final round of CN Canadian Women’s Open 2012 to take the runner-up position.
Park, who ranked among the favourite contenders for the 2012 edition of CN Canadian Women’s Open played at the Vancouver Golf Club, Canada, displayed a good performance in all the four rounds, carding an overall
score of 278.
Amateur Lydia Ko of New Zealand, who is just 15 years old, surprised the spectators and fans by clinching her first Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) victory at Vancouver. Ko shot an overall 275 to
take a 3-stroke lead against her nearest rival.
Park exuded a mixture of joy and regret on Sunday after watching Ko grab the coveted title, but she remained confident and did not let her nerves overcome her. She fought a tough battle against the Kiwi star
and recorded a good finish.
Park started the final round in impressive style as she shot a birdie on the very first hole, which helped her gain much-needed confidence. She then parred the two holes, but the difficult par-4 fourth proved
a little challenging for the South Korean star and she ended up registering a bogey.
Regaining her composure, Park drained her second birdie on the eighth hole. On the back nine, her performance looked much better as she remained calm on almost all the holes. She carded 3 birdies and one bogey
on the last nine holes.
Speaking to the media about her performance in the tournament, Park said that she sought to win the event and even came close to the victory, but a couple of mistakes on some holes took a toll on her overall
performance in the first three rounds.
The South Korean prodigy said that Lydia Ko remained strong throughout the four days, which helped her record her first LPGA victory.
“It was tough putting day today. I mean I gave myself a lot of chances out there, but obviously Lydia was too far to catch today, and she was playing really good golf out there,” Park shared. “The pressure
she was handling is really amazing. I'm really happy for her. It's great for her career. And I think I was just lucky that I get the winner's check today”.
