Inbee Park finishes second at British Open 2012
South Korean Inbee Park proved her worth once again after she finished second at the Ricoh Women’s British Open 2012.
Park might have fallen short in some of the recent Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) tournaments, but her performance has been good in most of the major championships.
The latest major battle, which was held at the Royal Liverpool Golf Club, Hoylake, United Kingdom, was the scene of relentless pursuit of the one of the most coveted titles in women’s golf as almost every player
put their best fee forward.
Park was determined to stay ahead of the pack — and she did show her trademark putting skills on most of the holes.
With an almost impeccable 68 in the second round, the South Korean star picked up pace, jumping to a higher position on the leaderboard. However, her efforts seemed to taper off after her fellow South Korean
Jiyai Shin headed into the lead by shooting a bogey-free 64 in the second round.
The last round saw Park make plenty of mistakes as her putting looked much worse than the first three rounds. With four bogeys, one double bogey and two birdies, Park made a deep dent in her overall performance,
letting Shin surge past her.
As opposed to the bogey-marred fourth round, Park’s performance in the second round provided her with enough room to stay in contention till the last minutes of the tournament.
“I had birdies -- I had the back nine, I had a lot of easy birdies on the back nine, and the front nine was really tough because the wind picked up,” the LPGA titan said of her performance in the second round.
An unpredictable weather in the first three rounds made it hard for the contenders to stay focused, as most of them blamed rough winds for grim play.
“I've been playing the front nine really hard because my ball is a little bit right-to-left shape and the wind is coming right-to-left, so I just have to watch the front nine a little bit more the next two
days,” Park added.
She went on to say that despite making some errors on the front nine of second round, she bounced back on the back nine with full force. “The back nine I've been playing great and I've been having a lot of
birdies on the back nine, so feeling really confident with the back nine”.
