Inbee Park finishes tied for 17th at Mizuno Classic 2012
South Korean Inbee Park could not impress her fans at the Mizuno Classic 2012 as she posted an overall 213 to finish tied for the 17th position on the leaderboard.
Park was among the hot favourites for the prestigious tournament, staged at Kintetsu Kashikojima Country Club, Shima-s**+, Mie, Japan, but a worse-than-average performance in the second round brought her crashing down to a much lower position than her fans had anticipated.
Park, who has already won two LPGA titles in the current season, kicked off the third round with confidence and posted a 70. But the score was not enough to help her sail to the top.
She started the round on Sunday with a par, but drained a birdie on the par-4 second hole. She then parred the next four holes and launched another birdie on the par-5 7th.
She, however, marred her score with bogeys on the difficult par-3 8th and par-3 11th.
Park has been in tough competition with American Stacy Lewis who is currently leading Rolex Player of the Year. Park was supposed to win the Mizuno Classic 2012 in order to replace Lewis on the top, but the American star has further cemented her position by winning the tournament.
Lewis carded an overall 205 to take the title home. The victory will help the LPGA phenom further strengthen her position in the Women’s World Golf Rankings, as she is trailing the number one Yani Tseng.
Sharing her thoughts about her performance on Sunday, Lewis said that she was more than happy after beating all her nearest rivals, and she will try to keep the momentum going in the coming tournaments.
“I’m a leader board watcher whether I play well or not just to see what’s going on. I felt comfortable with my putter no matter what so it didn’t really matter,” said Lewis who has now become the top performer of the season, with a total of four LPGA titles.
“It’s nice. I was trying to win the tournament this week, but I figured everything will just take care of itself. I just got in my own way these past couple of weeks, but these last two rounds, this is the most fun I’ve had all year. So it’s been a great couple of days”.
