Inbee Park fires 64 to grab second-round lead at Waterloo
South Korean Inbee Park displayed a stellar performance in the second round of the Manulife Financial LPGA Classic 2012, as she fired an explosive 64 to grab a solo lead.
The inaugural tournament being played at Waterloo, Canada, is featuring a strong roster that includes several top-ranked LPGA (Ladies professional Golf Association) stars like Paula Creamer, Suzann Pettersen,
Lexi Thompson, Shanshan Feng of China, Sun Young Yoo, Karin Sjodin, Stacy Lewis of the United States and Jodi Ewart.
Park got off to a shaky start on the first day, as she could not put pressure on her rivals. With a 69 registered in the opening round, the South Korean star stood tied for the 21st position on the
leaderboard. Other contenders also tried to give a tough time to the second-round leader, but Park was determined to do her best this time.
The rising golfer stunned the Canadian spectators when she drained two straight birdies on the par-4 2nd and the difficult par-3 3rd on the front nine. She then made another birdie-putt
on the 5th. However, she could not judge the ball on the next hole and ended up shooting a bogey.
The South Korean looked a little disappointed after her first bogey, but quickly regained her composure. She launched another two back-to-back birdies on the par-4 8th and the tricky par-3 9th
hole, receiving a big round of applause from golf-crazy fans.
Speaking to the media about her stunning performance in the opening round, Park said that she did not think she would be able to jump to the top of the leaderboard after making a slow start. She pointed out
that the next two rounds will be tougher, but she is determined not to surrender to her nerve.
Park went on to say that she is satisfied with what she did on the second day, and will try to maintain her lead moving into the next round.
“I played great today.  I hit the ball very well and especially hit my short irons really good, so gave a lot of opportunities and obviously putt very good today.  So two days more like this, yeah,” the South
Korean prodigy said.
“A couple of good par saves and I think mostly I hit a lot of shots really close.  So, I mean, there was par 5s that you can reach here and the greens were playing really soft today, so it was a lot easier
than yesterday”.
