Inbee Park jumps to 2nd position in the second round of Wegmans LPGA Championship 2012
South Korean Inbee Park stunned the spectators and rivals in the second round of the Wegmans LPGA Championship 2012, as she posted a decent 70 to tie for the second spot, along with three other contenders.
Park appeared to be a in a great form, as she was firm to improve her position in the second round.
With comfortable winds whipping through the course most of the day, the South Korean star capitalised on the favourable weather conditions.
She was tied for the 17th place at the end of the first round, but improved her standing after making sensible strokes on most of the holes.
The tournament, being played at Locust Hill Country Club, New York, is featuring competent LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) contenders. However, Park did not let her nerve overcome her and put up a tough fight.
Park got off to an impressive start and shot two birdies on the par-4 2nd and the par-5 4th. However, she faltered on the par-4 6th and made a bogey.
On the back nine, she recorded two bogeys and three straight birdies on the difficult 15th, 16th and 17th hole.
Analysts said that Park looked in a great form, something most of her rivals had not expected before the tournament.
They pointed out that the next two rounds will be tougher, as the top-ranked players have managed to improve their positions in the second round. Suzann Pettersen, who was standing tied for the 11th position, surged to T6.
Speaking to the media at the end of the round, Park said that she is glad that she improved her position from T17 to T2, which is great.
She added that the next round will be more difficult, as big players appear to be consolidating their standings on the leaderboard.
“Today I hit a lot of fairways, that was the big key today. Yesterday I was struggling a little bit with the ball striking but today it was much better,” the young golfer said.
“I think I missed only two fairways and that was just like in the first cut. So that just helped me a lot today. I gave myself a lot of opportunities for birdie”.
