Rolex Player of the Year: Inbee Park racks up heavy earnings to top money list
For many Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) stars, it is not about earnings made on the Tour — it is about winning titles.
However, South Korean Inbee Park looks more than happy after she rose to the top of Rolex Player of the Year standings (2012) as she has earned an eye-popping $1,669,608 so far in the current
season — although it still has not helped her eclipse the popularity of current world number one Yani Tseng and Stacy Lewis of the United States.
Sharing her thoughts about the honour, Park said she is more than thrilled to see her name atop the Rolex Player of the Year list, because this is something she had been seeking to achieve
since turning professional.
Now that the South Korean star has put herself in the limelight, it has become even more crucial for her to keep the momentum going in the remaining tournaments of the current season.
It remains to be seen how Park will subdue her rivals, but the latest success is enough to keep her hopes up.
“It feels great to be on top for sure,” she said. “This was the place I always have been dreamed of, and I did it this season. I’m really happy with the way I’ve played this year with little
bit of swing change in the offseason. I am able to hit the ball a lot straighter and more consistent this season”.
When it comes to the number of wins in the current season, Park is certainly not the best as she has earned only one triumph on the LPGA Tour so far.
Having grabbed a title at the Evian Masters 2012 that saw her outrival Australian Karrie Webb and Stacy Lewis by two strokes, Park set the ball rolling — but what made her stand out among
her rivals was recording nine straight top-ten finishes.
Observers said that recording a string of top-ten finishes in the season has helped the South Korean golfer gain massive points.
Park is working hard on every aspect of her game and she has managed to fix some big flaws in her putting in the recent past.
“For the putter, I really rely on my feel instead of techniques,” the LPGA titan said. “That has really worked for my entire career and especially this year with better ball striking”.
