Inbee Park says "putting" to play big role at Mizuno Classic 2012
South Korean Inbee Park, who boasts a solid past record in Japan, has said that her game has improved greatly in the last few months and she is ready to take on rivals at the upcoming Mizuno
Classic 2012, set to kick off this Friday.
The Mizuno Classic 2012 is slated to be staged from November 2-4, at Kintetsu Kashikojima Country Club, Shima-s**+, Mie, Japan, with the participation of defending champion Momoko Ueda of Japan.
Having won two LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) tournaments in the current season so far, Park ranks among names that are likely to cap off the year with surprising results.
But it could be the biggest shock of the weekend if big names fail to win over Japanese spectators, who will get behind the local players such as Ueda, Mika Miyazato and Mayu Hattori.
No matter how lively the crowd may be, course conditions are going to play their role. This is what Park appears to be concerned about the most.
“This golf course is pretty much like a short iron and putting. Putting is most important this weekend,” the LPGA star said while talking to the LPGA Tour during her pre-tournament interview
on Wednesday.
Park has been working real hard on her putting all season, and has fine-tuned every aspect of her game before heading to Japan.
“Everybody plays really well on this golf course and you’ve just got to go really low and score some birdies on this golf course. Hit is close and try to make a lot of putts”.
With Ueda being the two-time winner of the prestigious tournament as she also won the 2007 edition, observers have said that the competition is likely to turn into a tough battle because of
giants like current world number one Yani Tseng and American Stacy Lewis.
However, Park still stands strong despite having missed every opportunity to win in Japan. The South Korean star may still be seeking a victory at the Mizuno Classic, but a couple of top-10
finishes here make her visible in the line-up.
Park, who currently ranks first on the LPGA money list thanks to a total of 11 top-10 finishes, also pointed out that good weather conditions will make a big impact on the final results.
