Inbee Park wins Evian Masters
Evian Masters is over with surprising results. The South Korean player Inbee Park won the tournament with a narrow margin of 2 strokes.
For people following the tournament, this win came as no surprise. Park was right behind Stacy Lewis in the second round and was doing her best to overcome the small lead that Lewis had.
When the final round started, Park moved in and finished off the competition with an excellent show. The main threat to her win was Stacy Lewis, who was also on the verge of winning. The tie between these players made the final round very interesting.
As the final round started, Lewis appeared to be a strong contender for the trophy. She was going strong while Park shot a bogey on the third hole. This bogey seriously diminished Park’s chances for a win as Lewis was making par on all the holes.
On the 5th hole, Park scored a birdie and improved her score by a stroke. In response, Lewis shot a birdie on the 6th hole, nullifying Park’s advantage.
Park scored birdies on the 7th, 9th and 10th holes and gained advantage over her rival. However, her bogey on the 11th hole brightened Lewis chances.
The final five holes saw both the players playing great golf. A string of birdies from both Park and Lewis really heated things up. Lewis shot an eagle on the final hole.
This two stroke lead, however, was not enough to save her. Lewis had given away a couple of strokes in the previous rounds and this deficit came to haunt her in the final rounds.
Meanwhile, two other players were moving up the rankings. Karrie Webb and China’s Shanshan Feng were the real surprise of the tournament. Both the players played average golf in the previous rounds.
In the final round, these players started dropping in birdies at an amazing rate. Webb scored six birdies in the final round with two consecutive ones on the final two holes.
Similarly, Feng scored four birdies and finished the last hole in style by shooting an eagle. This great performance by the upcoming Chinese player made many experts revise their opinion about her.
Once considered to be an average player, now Feng has been elevated to a serious threat to major stars in any event that she participates in.
