  1. well if ur staying in Cuzco, you need only walk down any street near the plaza and u will find a tourism booth/shop. Theres one like every half block. Almost all of them have programs to hike the inka trail. YOu could go shopping around for the best deals and it would only take you like an hour to hit up 6 or 7 of them. Just make sure that the tourism agency looks legit, like make sure theres lots of other people there. Good Luck.

  2. The hike you are referring to is the "mini Inca Trail" which starts at KM 104.  It is a nice trek but you will not be able to do it this September because the Inca Trail is completely booked full for those dates.  Here is the website to check for permit availability

    http://www.inc-cusco.gob.pe/

    Please follow the next steps:

    1)      Click on “Sistema de reservas RCI”.

    2)      Click on “Disponibilidad Camino Inca (2007)”.

    3)      There is the page where you can check the availability for the Inca trail with the year and the month and then press “DISPONIBILIDAD”.

You will see that no permits remain for any date in September and most of October.

You will have to settle for some other hike, then take the train to Machu Picchu.

There is a nice hike in Lares Valley that can be done in 2.5 days, or a hike to Choquequirau that can be done in 3-4 days

check http://www.peruandes.com for more information on treks

    .

  3. You can't do it in 2 days.  It's a four day trip.  It's now a world heritage site or something like that and limited numbers of people are allowed to make the hike.  And the length of your trip won't give you much time to get acclimated to the altitude.  From what I've been told, you don't want to hit the Inca Trail without a few days in Cuzco first to get used to the altitude.  I have a friend in decent physical shape who had difficulty at Machu Picchu even though he didn't hike there--he just took the trian.
