Question:

Income Tax and Child Support?

I was just informed by the father that I should be getting a tax refund check (not sure if it's the rebate or income tax). Anyway, how do I confirm this?

The Texas Child Support Office (very rud girl) said the only thing I can do is call the automated number to see if it's been mailed, BUT I would really like to know IF it IS going to be mailed for sure.

When I call the IRS I can't get to a live person.

My son is going to California for a trip and it would be nice to know ahead of time so I can give him some extra cash to take, etc.

HELP!!!

  1. if he just got the letter stating his refund was offset and he's not married or owe any other debts and neither does you and if you aren't or was receiving public assistance (welfare as it's fomally known as) then you'll get it in as little as 30 days and if he's married and filed jointly then it'll be held for up to 6 months to give his spouse time to file an injured spouse claim form to get her half of the refund and rebate first.

if you didn't get the refund yet then that should be it and the rebate will follow about a week or 2 afterwards.

there's no way to confirm his check has been offset until you get it or possibly call the child support agency handling your case but they won't know until they get the check which may take the 30 days or 6 months that i mentioned earlier then they'll release it directly to you.

    good luck!

  2. It usually takes several months to actually get the money that was taken for child support, so don't count on having it real soon.
