Incoming Brumbies coach Jake White finds right time to train Australian derby - Rugby News
The Brumbies newly appointed coach, Jake White, is excited to undertake his duties with the Australian derby. Jake White will take over the Brumbies from their current coach, Tony Rea, after the end of the ongoing Super Rugby season. Tony Rea was put in
charge after the second round of the current Super Rugby. He was unable to elevate his squad from their miserable conditions.
The Brumbies had played below average in this year’s competition and they are currently placed in an overall 12th position on the point’s table. They have won just two games after eleven outgoings. Jake White was signed to a three-year contract
with Brumbies on 27th April to help the team out of the doldrums.
Talking to media on May 21, White said that it was the right time for him to rejoin his coaching duties for the Brumbies. He said that Brumbies have got the potential and all they need is the right direction. He added, "I enjoy the way the Brumbies play.
I enjoy what the Brumbies stand for. It is probably a good time to take over when there is a bit of change taking place."
Jake White, who led the South African team to lift the Rugby World Cup of 2003, argued that his national side had similar kinds of performances before the world championship. "They (Springboks) had a disastrous 2003 (World Cup) campaign. They got knocked
out of the quarter-finals by the All Blacks and they had not done well in the build up to the World Cup.”
He further told the media that the former coach of the Brumbies was with him when he was offered to coach Brumbies. He said that he had a very fruitful conversation with Jones as they have worked closely before. Jones was the coach who guided the Brumbies
to claim their first Super Rugby title in 2001. "Bouncing ideas off with him and discussing the Brumbies, (where) I was also quite fortunate for him to be there at that time,"
Brumbies chief executive Andrew Fagan has hoped that with Jake White they will be able retain their old status in the competition.
