My fiance is from Brazil. His family will be here from Brazil and speak ZERO english. We would like to incorporate Portuguese into our wedding, but aren't really sure how to do this. Any suggestions from people who have done this or ideas?

  1. If you truly want to honor your spouses cultural heritage, not to mention his physical family in attendance...PLUS score big points.....

Have 1/2 or 1/4 of the service in his native language.  OMG what a way to wow his family's heart!! For real...might as well tell them to take their shoes off ahead of time, because socks WILL be knocked off.

Other options include a projector with the native tongue's language.  Have a typed translation on paper for those in attendance.

It's not hard if it comes from the heart.

  2. you could have 2 ministers and have them go back and forth almost like a translator. To me that seems exessive but it is an option.  Another one is you could have a few prayers or readings done in portugese at the ceremony.  OR You could say your vows in english and your fiance say his in portugese.  or a combination of the latter 2 ideas as well.

    good luck and congrats:D

  3. At the reception when you make a little speech to HIS family, thanking them for raising their son, etc., say it in Brazilian. The family will go NUTS over that one. They'll love ya for it.

  4. Ask someone you both know to be a translator.  It should be done one sentence at a time.  You can decide where they stand and all that.  You can also include them at the reception.  Whoever you ask, I'm sure they would be honored by such a request.  What a great way to honor his family and friends, too.  He is lucky to have you.
