Question:

Incorporating technology into art?

i'm doing my higher art design unit and i have chosen to create a shoe for my final piece.

After helpful answers from another question i posted, i think i may create this shoe based on the theme of Pop Art and use the style of artists like Andy Warhol in my design.

I was trying to think of what to incorporate into the shoe based on this and one idea is technology as it is something which is a big part of culture today and has a massive influence worldwide, linking in with the definition of Pop Art.

How could i integrate technology into my shoe design? or what other ideas from Pop Art could i include? thanks, any help appreciated:)

  1. Incorporate some low power LED lights into the shoe.  Take it a step farther than those kid's shoes with the flashing "strobe" lights and make an LED screen image on the shoe's open surfaces.  If you can be even more techie, design it so that the image can change, like those LED displays on signs.

You can make, either, images, or scrolling messages. And, by "something personal," you can have these graphics make a statement that is meaningful to YOU.  Something as simple as "Hi mom!" to a statement about man's inhumanity to other creatures.  The point being that, your art says something about you.

  2. When I did graphic art, my lecturer told me one important bit of advice.. Technology always comes last; a great idea comes first. Before you jump in with being pressured for 'modern' themes, pick something more personal; something you're strong with. Surprise the examiners... I did, and got an A-A!
